Lord Shiva stopped all the poison in his neck. Due to the poison neck colored blue. On that day Shiva was named Neelkanth Mahadeva.

Once, a lady was there near to my house. She was the great devotee of Neelkanth bird or can be said that she was the devotee of Lord Shiva.

She told that once, she saw Lord Shiva near his bed when she waked up in the morning. Lord Shiva came there to give her blessings. Afterward a Neelkanth bird came there and start to chat her telepathically.

Whenever she recall the Neelkanth bird, the bird came there to give reply all the question she asked.

She told me so many things about the Neelkanth Lord Shiva. Now she is no more only a story is there. She was popular in the place with name of Neelkanth aunt.

 

It is very auspicious to see Neelkanth pakshi on Dussehra. Because according to Purana Shree Ram got victory over Lanka with the blessings of Lord Shiva. After winning Ravan Shree Ram, Sita and Lakshman were upset due to killing of a Brahmin or Ravan. They prayed Lord Shiva to forgive them for this act. Lord Shiva came to forgive them all from the sin of killing Ravan. At this time Lord Shiva come there in the form of a blue bird or Neelkanth bird.
